Virgina Mae Hinders Graeser, age 87, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born the daughter of Clarence Loyal and Veva Mae (Cartee) Bridges on November 23, 1937, in Iowa City, Iowa. She was baptized into the Christian faith at the First Baptist Church in Plainfield, Iowa. Through the years she was quite the prankster to her sister, Mariam. She attended school in Plainfield where she graduated high school.

In 1957, Virgina was united in marriage with Richard Hinders at the Immanuel United Church of Christ parsonage in Clarksville. The couple made their home in Clarksville where they raised their five children, Richard, Vernita, Vickie, Ronald and Valeria. For many years Virginia primarily worked at the Clarksville Nursing Home where she retired working as a Med Aid. She also worked and made potato salad at Doc’s in Clarksville and she also worked a couple of years at Sky Tech factory in Waverly. Richard passed away on December 20, 1991, at the age of 60.

Virginia married Lavern Graeser on May 28, 2004, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They made their home on his farm near Plainfield. She was a member and attended the First Baptist Church in Plainfield.

Through the years she enjoyed traveling with friends, especially to Colorado, Canada and her favorite place was Arizona. She was a longtime member of the Clarksville Rebekka’s, where she held offices as secretary/treasurer and president. She enjoyed attending a Bible study group at the Church of Christ in Clarksville. She loved Elvis Presley and collected a lot of his memorabilia. She enjoyed watching western movies in the John Wayne era and for many years still loved watching all of the reruns.

Virginia passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at the Waverly Health Center in Waverly, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Richard Hinders and Lavern Graeser; a son Richard “Rick” Hinders, a granddaughter, Tiffanie Hinders; her parents, Clarence and Veva Bridges; and one sister, Miriam Garbes.

Virginia is survived by four children, Vernita (Dean) Hobson of
Greene, Vickie (Jeff) Chesnut of Clarksville, Ronald “Ron” (Melissa) Hinders of Clarksville, and Valeria (John) Marks of Plainfield; 17 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren with four on the way; two great great-grandsons with one on the way; one daughter-in-law, Holly Hinders of Clarksville; one brother-in-law, Robert Garbes of Shell Rock; six step-children; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Private Family Funeral Services will be Monday, April 28, at the Redman Funeral & Cremation Services – Clarksville funeral home in Clarksville.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, at the Redman Funeral & Cremation Services in Clarksville.
