Mrs Sophie Griffel passed away on Thursday, August 14th, at the farm home of her husband, Fred Griffel, southwest of town.

The community was saddened to hear that the name of another old settler must be stricken from the rolls and leaving a vacant place in the home where she had labored long and lovingly.

Mrs. Griffel was born in Illinois and moved to this community some thirty years ago and has made her home here since. In thirty years of ernest endeavor and christian life she has built up a large circle of friends and reared a family who will sadly miss her going.

The funeral was held Sunday from the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran church and after the services the body was laid to rest in the Grant township cemetery.

Mrs. Griffel lived a simple and life and was well beloved by all who knew her. All her old neighbors from the surrounding country were present to pay their last regards to one who had been a neighbor indeed.

Besides the immediate family there were present at the funeral: Mary Koenecke and Mrs. Aggie Hendrich, both of Peatone, Illinois, who were sisters of Mrs. Griffel, and a daughter, Mrs. George Boettcher, of Lemmigton, Wisconsin, who was accompanied by her husband, and Mrs. Ida Bahl, of Montgomery, Ia. The sympathy of all is extended to the family in their sorrow.
