"Comrade Charles W. Moore was b 13th day of March 1841 in Wellsburg, County of Brooke, State of West Virginia.

I first entered the service August 20, 1861 at Camp Butler near Springfield, ILL as a private in Company G, 33rd Illinois Infantry. Served throughout as Private. I was discharged October 11, 1864 at Springfield, ILL at expiration of term of service. Was transferred in January 1864 to the 99th Illinois Infantry, and was transferred to my former Regiment in the summer of '64. The first battle in which I engaged at Cotton Plant, ARK July 1862. The other engagements in which I participated at Port Gibson, May 1, 1863, Champion Hill May 16, 1863, Black River Bridge, MS May 17, '63, Siege of Vicksburg, MS May 20, '63, Siege of Fort Esperanzois, TX November 30, '63. I was confined in hospital at Ironton, MO February '62 and at Memphis, TN, St. Louis and Jefferson Barracks, MO from June to September 1863. I was never taken prisoner. My most intimate comrades were William A. Timmons, Spencer R. Walls, George L. Conkling. The most important event was under Grant at Vicksburg. I was one of two to receive the only order of thanks read before our Regiment."
