OBITUARY.

Patrick Ronan, Sr, father of Wm. and Patrick Ronan, Jr., of Decorah, died last week Wednesday evening, June 14th, at his home near Independence, after an illness of several weeks from kidney trouble. Mr. Ronan came to Decorah the day before Easter for a short visit with his sons and on the following Monday became ill. He continued to grow worse and last week Monday was taken back to his old home, where death claimed him.
Mr. Ronan was born on June 7th, 1833, in Tipperary, Ireland. At the age of nineteen he came to America and stopped at Baltimore for about a year. While there he met and married Mary Loftus. Soon after their marriage they came to Dubuque where they made their home for about eighteen months, when they removed to Buchanan county and took up land a mile and half east of Independence, the same farm where both Mr. Ronan and his wife passed to rest. Mrs. Ronan died last December. Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Ronan, the surviving members of the family being Mrs. D. S. Coughlin of Independence, Thomas Ronan of Waterloo, Mrs. John Conlin of Milwaukee, Mrs. Wm. Conlin of Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., and the sons who reside in Decorah. The funeral was held at St. John’s church in Independence Saturday morning at nine o’clock, when solemn high mass was read.
