Mary E. McNamara of Independence, Iowa went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 21, 2025.
Mary was born on November 21, 1941 in Troy Mills, Iowa, the daughter of Earl and Bertha (Leopold) Avis. Mary attended school at Troy Mills and Walker, graduating from Rowley High School in 1960. She married Thomas A. McNamara on December 31, 1960 at All Saints Church in Rowley.
Mary was a member of Catholic Daughters and West Virginia Master Gardeners. She loved going to Bible studies and was a former Eucharistic Minister. She was also a Cedar Valley Hospice volunteer.
She is survived by her two children, Dianne (Steve) Henry of Murrieta, CA and Charles (Lora) McNamara of Dunstable, MA, as well as seven grandchildren; Bryan (Brittany) Henry, Megan (Samuel) Kimmons, Ashlen (James) Stevenson, Nathan McNamara, Thomas McNamara, Shaun McNamara, and Nolan McNamara, seven great-grandchildren, two sisters, Dorothy Hamiton, Evansdale, IA, Marjorie Neuenkirk, Waterloo, IA, a brother, Paul Avis, Cedar Falls, IA, and sister-in-law, Alice Franck, Quasqueton, IA.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas McNamara, her parents, two infant sisters, Marle Lou Avis (Mary’s twin) and Rosemarie Avis, and brothers, Loyd Avis, Rhodes, IA, and Walter Avis, Peoria, AZ.
A Funeral Liturgy Service will be held on January 9th, 2025, at 10:30 AM at the St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence, IA.
Burial will be held at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Independence, IA.
