Robert E, Higdon Jr., 70, of Rowley, IA, died on February 19, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, after a sudden illness.
Bob was born on November 25, 1954, in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, the son of Robert E. and Virginia L. (Rainwater) Higdon. He was a 1973 graduate of Pocahontas High School in Pocahontas, AR.
Bob enlisted into the United States Army in 1980. He served proudly in the infantry for 12 years. While on leave he met Teresa K. Rouse in Independence. They were later married on May 1, 1982, in Tacoma, WA. For several years the Higdon family lived throughout the United States, following Bob’s military career. They soon welcomed two children into their lives, Shane and Lacey. Bob did his best to make lasting memories with his kids while serving his country. In 1992, Bob was honorably discharged from the army at the rank of Staff Seargent and the Higdon family returned to Independence, IA.
Bob worked many jobs over the years. He worked for Gissel Construction, Wapsie Valley Creamery, Nelson Electric building power lines, G&L Lawn Ranger and for Hoskie’s Aerial Service. For a short time, he ran his own business H&H Deck and Fence Co. He loved to stay busy but finally retired in 2023.
He loved the outdoors and animals. He was an avid fisherman, and deer hunter. When his kids were young, he tried to teach them everything about fishing. From catching their own bait to landing the biggest catch. He made it a point to take his kids fishing every Friday night while they were growing up.
He was a loving husband, good dad, and great Poppy to his grand kids. He shared many life lessons that will never be forgotten, and he will be missed for all time.
He is survived by his wife, Teresa Higdon, Rowley, IA, his children, Shane (Lisa) Higdon, New Hartford, IA, and Lacey (Eli) Moss, Copley, OH, five grandchildren; Lexi, Chloe, Shelby, and Aubrey Higdon, and Owen Moss, a sister, Nelda Sue Piper, Kansas City, KS, twin brothers, Dean Higdon, Truesdale, MO, and Gene (Louise) Higdon, Verona, MO, several half siblings and many nieces and nephews.
