Garrett Ross Decker, 12 years old of Independence, IA, and formerly of Jesup, IA, died August 6, 2024, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, IA.

Garrett was born October 25, 2011, in Waterloo, IA, the son of Gary Michael Decker and Brienna Rose Marie (Gideon) Decker. He had just completed 6th grade at Jesup Middle School.

Garrett is survived by his mother, Brienna “Breezy” Decker and his sister, Mikenna Decker; also, paternal grandparents, Gary & Ruth Decker of Ft. Madison, IA; maternal grandparents, Sally Gideon of Grundy Center, IA, James & Betsy Gideon of Ames, IA; and paternal great grandmother, Kathy Clark of Ft. Madison, IA.

Garrett is preceded in death by his father, Gary “Mike” Decker; paternal great grandparents, Lawrence & Delores Decker and James Clark; and maternal great grandparents, Robert & Phyllis Gideon.

An Open House Visitation will be held Sunday, August 11, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the White Funeral Home in Jesup.

In lieu of flowers, monetary gifts will go toward a memorial bench at the Jesup Splash Pad. Monetary contributions can be sent to the City of Jesup noting: “Garrett Decker Memorial.”

Jesup was the last community Garrett called home, and the splash pad was built with the intention of play access for all. Garrett would have loved to enjoy the splash pad himself and being surrounded by other kids & all their laughter!
