At Waverly on the Fourth, Frank Kingsley, son of Sheriff Kingsley, aged twelve years, met with a distressing accident. He was engaged with two other boys in firing a small cannon. After loading and igniting the fuse, the instrument failed to fire; Frank desiring to know the cause put his face down to the tube, when it went off, filling his face and eyes with powder. His eyes are swollen shut, but it is feared he will lose the sight of one of them. It is a dangerous experiment for small boys to handle gun powder, and they should not be allowed to do it.
