June 13, 1911 - September 16, 2011
Born in Nevada, IA
Resided in Madrid, IA

Ramah P. Lawson, 100, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 16, 2011, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, IA.

She was born on June 13, 1911 in Nevada, Iowa, to Ray and Mary Ellen Nokes. Ramah graduated from Nevada High School in 1923, and went on to a local business school to learn booking skills. She worked for the Donnelly Corporation for two years and then worked for the local drug store as a bookkeeper. That is where Ramah met Ernie Lawson, the love of her life; they were married in 1934 and shared the next 48 years together. Ernie worked at the local lumber yard, and in 1944 was asked if he would take the management job of the yard in Madrid. They went on to purchase the business in late 1958. They together ran the business until 1972 when it was completely destroyed by fire. Ramah and Ernie spent several winters enjoying the Arizona sun and then moving there. Ernie passed away in 1982, and Ramah moved back to Madrid in 1990.

She is survived and lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Pat Faris of Huntington Beach, CA and Connie Dudley of Ankeny; one son, Frank Lawson and his wife, Joyce (which Ramah loved like a daughter) of Madrid; four grandchildren, Susan Faris of Huntington Beach, Joel Faris of Fountain Valley, CA, and Brad Lawson and Leslie Larson both of Madrid; ten great-grandchildren, Matthew, Josh, William, Anna, David and Benjamin Faris of Fountain Valley, and Shelby and Trent Larson and Riley and Tate Lawson all of Madrid. In addition to her husband, Ramah was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Ray; and sister, Dorothy.

In agreement with Ramah's wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. Private committal services will take place at Hillsdale cemetery, east of Madrid, where she will be laid to rest by her beloved husband, Ernie.
