WATERLOO - Mae B. Black, 89, of Waterloo, died Saturday, Nov. 5, 2005.

She was born May 23, 1916, in West Point, Miss., daughter of Eugene and Viola Sims. She married James L. Black on Dec. 23, 1936, in Dell, Ark.

Survivors include two sons, Ben (Ora) of Waterloo and Cornelius (Sam) of Des Moines; seven daughters, May (Issac) Newson of Country Club Hill, Ill., Polly Thomas of Des Moines, Nola Ford of Long Beach, Calif., Verna Scott of Indianapolis, Joyce (Lavern) Madlock and Thea Black, both of Waterloo, and Lavinia Black of Dubuque; 22 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Rosie Lee Reed of Gary, Ind., Alice Crawford of Milwaukee, Wis., and Doris Boozer of Dayton, Ohio; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, James; two daughters, Onice and Loretta; three brothers, Robert, JC and WC; and a sister, Mary Bryant.

Graveside service: 11 a.m. Thursday in Elmwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Sanders Funeral Service. The family will receive friends at 522 Sumner St.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice Home in lieu of flowers.
