Lola R. Lewis, 84, of 508 Commercial St. Apt. A, formerly of 1025 E. Main St., died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo, after a brief illness.
She was born April 24, 1916, in Chandler, Minn., daughter of Martin H. and Anna Van Nice Long. She married John Soden in 1940 in Cedar Rapids. They were later divorced. She then married Edwin D. Lewis Feb. 2, 1946, in Vinton. He died Oct. 12, 1976.
Mrs. Lewis was past president of La Porte City Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and had worked at Williams Rest Home and Hawkins Memorial Library.
Survived by: a son, David of Crystal Lake, Ill.; a daughter, Carolyn Schmitz of La Porte city; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by three sisters: Dorothy Primmer, Helen Swick and Lois Willer; and two brothers, Wayne and John Long.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Heartland Community Church, La Porte City, with burial in Maplewood Cemetery, Vinton. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Huisman Funeral Home, La Porte City.
