obit from "The Waterloo Evening Courier" Waterloo, IA Wednesday July 04, 1923 p5, col 3: Andrew Kephart Dies of Injuries. Railway Crossing Flagman Victim of Auto Mishap Thursday, in Four Accidents.
Andrew E. Kephart, 737 Cottage Street, died at 6:30 p.m. yesterday as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident two miles east of this city on Grant highway last Thursday evening. Several ribs and a collar bone were broken, the ribs penetrating the lungs, and there were other internal injuries in addition to many body bruises. It was the fourth automobile accident that Mr. Kephart had figured in during the past two years. Four Hurt in Smashup.
At the time of the accident a daughter, Mrs. W. T. Warner, was driving a light sedan. It left the highway and plunged into a ditch. The top was broken off. There were five passengers in the car and all except a child received injury. Mrs. Kephart is still confined to her bed as a result of her injuries.
Mr. Kephart's condition took a turn for worse last Saturday. Since then he had gradually failed. He was born Aug. 4, 1858 in Pennsylvania and had lived in Waterloo the past four and a half years. During the time he was not laid up from injuries received in motor mishaps, Mr. Kephart was employed as crossing flagman for the Illinois Central railway at Fourth and Dane Streets. The other accidents occured while he was on duty, the result of drivers running into or over him. Funeral Not Arranged.
Surviving besides the widow are the following children: Mrs. Jennie Wallingford, Webster, Wis., Mrs. Rose Barklow and Edward Kephart, Atalissa; Mrs. John Reynolds, Ernest, Mrs. Roland Graber and Mrs. W. T. Warner, Waterloo, Mrs. Oscar Slagle, Nellville, Wis., Ray Kephart, Stewartsville, Minn. The body was removed to the Kistner undertaking parlors to await funeral arrangements.
