Norbert T. Meisch
WATERLOO - Funeral services for Norbert T. Meisch will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, at St. Edward's Catholic Church, Waterloo, with the Rev. Msgr, Russell M. Bleich and the Rev. Aloysius J. Vorwald officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waterloo. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Reiff Funeral Home, Independence, where there will be a 3 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service.
Mr. Meisch, 76, died of cancer Sunday afternoon, Jan. 4, 1998, at his daughter's home in Independence.
He was born Feb. 7, 1921, in Waterloo, the son of Thomas and Margaret (Koster) Meisch. He graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic High School, Waterloo, and attended Loras College in Dubuque. He married Mary Alice Barragy on Sept. 19, 1946, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rockwell. The couple lived in Waterloo, where he owned the Meisch Grocery Store on Independence Ave. until its closing in 1968. He then worked for Continental Hoxie Food Service, Rath Sales and Rainbow Meats prior to his retirement.
Survivors include three sons, William of Davenport, Dr. Robert Meisch of Dyersville, and James of Des Moines; two daughters, Sue Manion of Coon Rapids, Minn., and Mary Ann Reiff of Independence; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five sisters, Celeste Oberle of Denver, Colo., Dolores Moothart of Waterloo, Rita Penne of Grinnell, Delphine Marlow of Arlington, Va., and Thomasine Furnia of Bethesda, Md.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Alice, Oct. 20, 1990; and two sons, Thomas and Louis Meisch.
