CHAS. E. PICKETT HEADS
COMMITTEE

Announcement was made this week by Fred W. Sargent, chairman of the Iowa Memorial Union, that he had appointed Charles E. Pickett of Waterloo to be Congressional District chairman in the 3rd district. Mr. Pickett will have charge of organizing Dubuque, Delaware, Buchanan, Black Hawk, Bremer, Butler, Franklin, Wright and Hardin counties for the $1,000,000 campaign which graduates of the University of Iowa are conducting to erect a Memorial Union in honor of the sons and daughters of the university who served in the Civil War, the Spanish War, and the World War. Mr. Pickett took his degree of Bachelor of Law from the university in 1890.

The Memorial Union campaign will culminate in the week of November 22-29, immediately following Homecoming Day, the big celebration of the university year. Mr. Sargent said the organization work was progressing rapidly, both in the state of Iowa and in the communities in many other states in which graduates and former students of the university now live. Keen interest in the memorial project is being shown because of its patriotic character and the value the Union building will be in the social life of future generations of students.
