His Neck Broken.
Independence Bulletin-Journal. D. H. Hurd, well known in the southern part of this county, met with a sudden and violent death last Thursday, June 9. He was leading a bull, and had just crossed a bridge, when the animal turned suddenly, jerking the rope and throwing Mr. Hurd in a ditch at the side of the road. The unfortunate man fell on his head breaking his neck, dying almost instantly. Mr. Hurd was 65 years old, and leaves a wife and seven children. He lived in Benton county, just south of Homer township.
