Graveside services for Jerry Dale Petersen, 67, of Marshalltown, were conducted May 28, 2005 at the Exira Cemetery, in Exira, IA, with Pastor Bradley Ketcham officiating. Interment was in the Exira Cemetery. Casket bearers were Dwain Thompson, Marvin Christensen, Franklin Andersen, Frank Albertsen, Curtis Andersen and Jerry Jensen.

Jerry Dale Petersen, the son of Jerry and Mabel Albertsen Petersen, was born Sept. 12, 1937, on his parents’ farm in Greeley Township, Audubon County, Iowa, and died May 26, 2005, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.

Jerry was baptized and confirmed at the Exira Lutheran Church. He attended rural school in Greeley Township and graduated from Exira High School with the Class of 1956. On June 5, 1956, he was inducted into the U.S. Army. During his tour of duty, he served in Washington, DC. He was honorably discharged June 5, 1958. He returned to the Exira area, where he did construction work and then was employed as a farm hand.

On March 14, 1959, he was united in marriage to Ardella Lehwald at Trinity Lutheran Church north of Audubon. They lived in Greeley Township, where he was a farm hand for a short time. They purchased a farm in Greeley Township, which they operated until 1984, when Jerry was injured in an accident. They moved into Exira in 1988. He lived at home until he moved to the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown in September of 1995. Jerry was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Audubon.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Ardella Petersen of Exira, IA; his sons: Richard Petersen, Randall Petersen, Jay Dee Petersen, all of Exira, and Russell Engelbrecht of Strasburg, CO; his granddaughter, Olivia Petersen of Atlantic; his brother, Richard E. and wife, Joann Petersen of Exira; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Melba Musfeldt of Phoenix, AZ; Merlin and wife, Pat Lehwald of Sabetha, KS; and Larry Hogan of Greenville, TX; nieces nephews, other relatives and friends.
