Obituary: Unidentified and undated

"A Sad Death - Sad Demise of Mrs. Lydia S. Elliott, A Former Resident of this County and Eldest Daughter of Wm. and Esther Cunningham.

We clip the following notice of this death of the above lady, at her home in Columbia City, Indiana from the Columbia City Commercial:

Mrs. Lydia S. Elliott was born in Delaware, Ohio, April 10th, 1821; died at her home in Columbia City, Indiana, January 26, 1881, aged 59 years, 9 months and 16 days. She came with her husband to Indiana [Iowa??] in 1852 and settled in Troy Township where she resided until coming to Columbia City about a year ago. Since the twentieth year of her age she has been a member of the Presbyterian Church. She was greatly devoted to the interests of the church, and in her daily life exhibited the beauty and power of the religion she had so long professed. During the latter part of her illness she was unconscious a greater portion of the time, hence uttered but few words in regard to death, but these were declarative of submission to the will of God and readiness to depart. She was held in high esteem by all who knew her. Beside her husband, who died two years before, her remains were laid away to rest in the beautiful cemetery adjoining Troy Presbyterian Church. Four children, two sisters and two brothers are left to mourn.

On Thursday, January 27th, her remains were removed to her former home in Audubon County, Iowa, and deposited in the cemetery near Troy Chapel. We with their many friends in this city, tender our heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family."
