Hunting Victim
John G. Kesselring, 47, of
Ridgeway, Colorado, son-in-law of
Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln Akers, sr.,
of Brayton, drowned Sunday,
November 19, in the Gunnison
River, about eight miles from
Delta, Colorado, in a hunting ac-
cident.
Mr. Kesselring was a son of Mr.
and Mrs. John Kesselring, sr., of
Guthrie Center. He was one of a
group of seven hunters, shooting
ducks in the Gunnison River area,
when a dog was sent to retrieve
a bird which had fallen into the
water. An ice covering broke
through with the dog and a 14
year old boy, the dog's owner,
went after his pet. The boy's
father went to his son's assist-
ance and as they neared the
bank, Kesselring stuck out his
gun to aid them and in someway
slipped into the water, and all
three were drowned.
The remains were returned to
Guthrie Center where memorial
services were held Monday af-
ternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the
First Christian Church and burial
was in Oakfield cemetery at
Brayton.
Survivors besides the parents,
include the widow, the former
Winona Akers of Brayton and
two children of Ridgeway, Colo-
rado.
