EXIRA PIONEER DIES FOL-
LOWING SHORT ILLNESS

Hans J. Bengard, a long time resi-
dent of this community, passed away
at the home of his son Ed Bengard
late Friday, following an illness of
two weeks duration. Death was due
to pneumonia.

The deceased was born in Denmark
on January 8, 1859. He came to this
country when a young man and was
married to Miss K. Birk (Anna Katherine Birk) in New York
City in 1884. Following his marriage
the couple came to Brayton, where
they lived four years and then moved
to a farm south of this place. Mrs.
Bengard died about six years ago.

The deceased leaves to mourn his
loss seven children and a host of rela-
tives and friends. The children are:
John, Louis, Ed Bengard, Mrs. Marie
Wheeler, Mrs. Cynthia Eagen, Mrs.
Esta Frederick and Miss Kathryn
Bengard, all of this vicinity.

Funeral services were held at the
Oak Hill church Sunday afternoon at
1:30, conducted by Rev. M. Dale Hum-
bert. Interment was in the Oak Hill
cemetery.
