NIELS CHRISTIAN SORENSEN

Niels Christian Sorensen was born
September 21, 1853, in Jutland, Den-
mark, and died December 4, 1924, at
his home in West Exira. Death was
due to a paralytic stroke.

Mr. Sorensen immigrated to Iowa in
1882, where he settled on a farm west
of Elk Horn. The following year he
married his fiancee from the old coun-
try, and to them were born five chil-
dren, all of whom survive him. Two
are living in Sioux City, one in Minne-
sota, one in Colorado, who is Mrs.
John Mortensen, formerly of Audubon,
and the whereabouts of the fifth are
unknown at present.

His first wife died at Audubon in
1912, Mr. Sorensen for many years
conducting a feed barn in that city.

The last eight years he has retired
to Exira, where in 1917 he married
his present wife, then Mrs. Ellen Sim-
onsen of Omaha.

The deceased was baptized and con-
firmed in his parental Lutheran church
of Denmark. While he lived in Shelby
county he affiliated with a Baptist
church, but for many years has not
taken any interest in religion, though
he was not an infidel, but simply
"minded earthly things."

We lament his sudden passing into
the next world. His life has been fill-
ed with toil and trouble, but some
rays of sunshine have also crossed
his path. May his passing have been
in peace.

Funeral service was conducted Fri-
day afternoon by Rev. P. C. Jensen
of the Lutheran church at the home
of the deceased. Interment was at
the Audubon cemetery.
