LOCAL AND PERSONAL

Word received from George Chase,
who went to Rochester last week for
examination at the Mayo Bros. clinic,
is to the effect that the doctors there
think they can save his foot for him.

Mr. Chase was afraid amputation
might be necessary. The foot was in-
jured many years ago by being cut
with an axe, and recently became in-
fected causing much trouble.

GEORGE CHASE LOSES FOOT

Word received the latter part of
last week from George Chase, who
has been at Rochester several weeks,
stated that he underwent an operation
for the amputation of his right foot.
Infection which developed from an
old wound made many years ago was
the direct cause of the amputation.
Mr. Chase has been bothered consid-
erably with his limb for many months
and during the past winter had been
confined to the house.

Latest reports inform his family
that he is getting along nicely and
can be expected home in a few weeks.

ANSWERS SUMMONS

GEORGE CHASE SUCCUMBS TO
COMPLICATIONS FOLLOWING
AMPUTATION OF FOOT

------------

The death of George Chase, Exira
drayman, occurred at his home here
last Friday, November 14th, after
many months of suffering.

A wound accidentally inflicted by
an ax to his left foot, when sixteen
years of age, was the indirect cause
of his death. When a lad Mr. Chase
accidentally cut his foot. The wound
healed, but later years it became
infected and was a running sore. In
the spring of this year he went to
the Mayo Bros. hospital at Rochester,
Minnesota, and after many weeks
spent there, underwent an operation,
physicians amputating his limb in an
effort to combat the poison which
was going through his system.

After returning home Mr. Chase
was greatly improved for a time, but
several weeks ago suffered a relapse
and was from that time until the end
confined to his bed.

George L. Chase was born in Illi-
nois on October 16, 1877. He was
united in marriage to Silvia McClain
in Exira about 28 years ago. To this
union two children were born, a
daughter, Goldie, who is now Mrs.
Louis Smith of Ingersoll, Oklahoma,
and a son, Earl, who is at home.

He also leaves to mourn his loss the
wife, his father, Joe Chase; three sis-
ters: Mrs. Nellie Wolfe, of Audubon;
Mrs. Grace McClain and Mrs. Roy
McClain of this city; four brothers:
Dick of Casper, Wyo.; Wesley, Guy
and Glen of Exira. His mother pre-
ceded him in death by only a few
months.

Funeral services were held at the
Christian church on Sunday, Novem-
ber 16, at two o'clock p. m., conducted
by Rev. Dale Humbert. Interment
was in Exira cemetery.
