KING

A little four and a half year old child of Matthew King, who lives on the Waukon road about one mile west of the Lycurgus Catholic church, met death most strangely last Monday. It was playing with other children about a straw-pile, which had been undermined by cattle feeding from it, and from some cause a great mass of it caved in, completely covering the child.

The other children alarmed its mother, who was alone in the house at the time with a nine days' old babe, and by the time she was able to extricate the child it was dead. It's back had been broken by the weight of the ice which covered the top of the straw-pile, and had it been sooner rescued its fate would doubtless have been the same.

The child was buried at 10 o'clock yesterday forenoon in the Lycurgus cemetery.
