Was at Ridgeway Twenty-two Years.
Dr. J. C. Lewis, whose death occurred at Waukon last week, was a practicing physician at Ridgeway for twenty-two years. He located there in 1889, and remained until 1911 when he sold his practice and moved to Waukon. In chronicling his death the Democrat says:
Deceased was 58 years of age, his birth occurring April 20, 1858, at Dunkirk, Wis. His parents came to this (Allamakee) county in 1864 and his boyhood was spent here. He completed a medical course in 1889 and located at Ridgeway, Iowa, where he practiced for 22 years. He returned to Waukon five years ago and built up a successful practice. He was county coroner at the time of his death.
Dr. Lewis was married in 1886 to Miss May Lowe, a member of one of Waukon’s pioneer families, who with a daughter, Elizabeth, and the doctor’s only sister, Miss Jessie, are grief stricken over their loss. An elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis died at Ridgeway at the age of 17. Deceased was a member of the Masonic, the Woodmen and the Yeomen fraternities.Transcriber’s Note: Fine a Grave shows his gravestone indicates he was born in 1859 which does not agree with the above. He is buried in Oakland Cemetery. Also it indicates his wife’s maiden name spelled Low
