We learn with surprise and regret of the death, at Viroqua, on Tuesday, of Thomas J. Vinje, Esq., of that place.

Mr. Vinje came to Lansing from Winneshiek county, about the year 1874, and entered the law office of Kinne & Burdick, paying close attention to his studies, and by his gentlemanly deportment drawing around him a wife circle of friends.

After admission to the bar he entered into partnership with Judge Burdick, afterwards continuing business alone, during which time he was chosen City Attorney of Lansing. Some 2 years since he removed to Viroqua, where he speedily secured a good paying business, and was one of the best known and respected citizens of Vernon Co.

In his relations with his fellow men Mr. Vinje was scrupulously honest and upright; he was possessed of a fair share of ability; personally he was very well like, and his prospects for the future were excellent when he was suddenly called away.

He leaves a wife and two children to mourn the loss of a good husband and father.

Mr. Edgar F. Hewit writes us that "the news of his death was entirely unexpected; he was sick only two weeks and one day - was taken first with Bilious Fever, succeeded by Typhoid Fever, resulting in his death."
