Poor George Kemble's pains and sufferings are at last over with. He died at the Insane Hospital at Independence, last Monday afternoon.
Our citizens and our readers have learned from our columns of his illness, from time to time, for the past two years, and the efforts made to restore him to health and reason, but it seems that it was not within the power of man to aid him, and he has continued to fail gradually ever since he first became afflicted. The immediate cause of his death was paralysis.
Mr. Kemble was 53 years of age. He was born at Elkton, a small village in Columbiana County, Ohio. He came to Lansing in 1855, and ever since that he has been a successful merchant here, building up a large and safe business, managing his affairs with such caution and shrewdness as to make himself independently rich, yet he was the same, quiet, unaustentatious, unassuming George Kemble, honorable and straightforward in all his dealings and a man who had the confidence of all who dealt with him in any manner.
The remains will be taken back to the old Kemble burying ground near the church which bears the family name, at Elkton.
The deceased leaves two brothers and two sisters. John, the younger brother, has had charge of the store here during George's illness, and will probably continue to manage it.
Thus has passed away another of the early settlers of Lansing, and he will long be remembered by all.

Notes: The 104/1878 Lansing Mirror also published an obit that was nearly identical as the obit above transcribed, with the addition of a few items:
- "... he brought from Ohio a stock of merchandise, opening it in the old F.D Cowles building at the corner of Main and Front streets, which he occupied until about the year 1860, when the store building he has since occupied was erected."
- "He was not married."
- "While peculiar and odd, he was possessed of a genial, pleasant manner ..."
- "The remains were taken to his old home, at Salem, Columbiana Co., Ohio ..."
