In the passing of Frank W. Ames there is removed from this locality one who has won the respect of those who knew him an upright man; ambitious, and true.
Frank W. Ames was the son of Alphonso and Mathilda Wheeler Ames and was born in Cattaraugus County, New York, on August 23, 1856.
In 1872 he came with his father and step-mother to Iowa and the family settled near Monona. On June 21, 1879, he united in marriage with Allie Wilcox.
The couple went to housekeeping in Floyd Co. and after about six years moved to the vicinity of Hardin where they lived together until the death of Mrs. Ames on February 25, 1932.
One daughter was born to them.
In 1901 Mr. Ames purchased the place which has been his home until the time o his death. He enjoyed good health and enjoyed life.
Last spring he was taken ill, and suffered several attacks since that time, the last occurring on Saturday morning, October 30th, from which he did not recover. He was 81 years of age.

Funeral services were held at the home on Tuesday, November 2, 1937, conducted by Rev. George W. Turner. Two numbers were sung by Mrs. Turner, "Going down the valley" and "Sweet bye and bye". Interment at Hardin cemetery.

Allie Jane Wilcox, the daughter of Hiram and Dorlesca Hinman Wilcox, was born on July 14th, 1858, at Great Valley, Cattaraugus County, New York, and departed this life on Thursday, February 25th, 1932, at eleven o'clock P.M. at the age of 73 years, seven months, and eleven days.On June 21st, 1879 she was united in marriage at Monona, Iowa to Frank W. Ames. To this union was born one daughter, Mrs. M.E. Smith, who, with the bereft husband, survives her.
Mrs. Ames united with the Methodist Church when a girl, and, despite ill health most of her life, never forsook or forgot the faith of her childhood, as the noble and wholesome lives of husband and daughter so eloquently attest.
She was a thoughtful and devoted mother, taking seriously the business of housekeeping, and performing the duties of family life so far as she was physically able to do so, leaving this testimony: "She hath done what she could."
There remains to mourn her passing, beside the husband and daughter above mentioned, one brother, George Ames, Castlewood, South Dakota, and an uncle, J.M. Wilcox, of Great Valley, N.Y., one step-brother, Mr. H.C. Burnham, Waukon, Iowa, one step-sister, Mrs. W.E. Hinman, Clearbrook, Minn., besides a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at her home near Hardin on Sunday afternoon February 28th, 1932 at two o'clock by Rev. Louis H. Joslin of Monona. Interment was made in Hardin cemetery, at Hardin.
