Mrs. Peter LaTronche, another of Allamakee County's oldest and most respected pioneers passed to her reward on Friday, May 23, 1924, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dave Martelle, in Harpers Ferry, after a period of illness due to the infirmities of old age, being in her 85th year.

Mary Louise La Pointe was born Feb. 4, 1839. She married Peter LaTronche in 1857 at Prairie du Chien, Wis., coming to Harpers the same year by ferryboat, there being no railroads, and made their home on the farm now known as the Gavin place.

Eight children were born to them, one son dying in infancy. Her husband died March 25, 1874.

She is survived by the following members Peter, Mrs. Dave Martelle, and Mrs. Thos. Gavin, of Harpers. Sr M Almce of St. Mary's Academy, Notre Dame, Ind.; Mrs. F.D. Postal, Chicago; Mrs. Thos. Broderick, Ossian and John La Troche, New Albin, Iowa.

Mrs. La Tronche was a model wife and mother. She was a good Christian woman and died fortified by the rites of the Catholic church of which she was a devout member all her life. All that loving hands and medical skill cold do was done, but all to no avail. She bore her sufferings very patiently and passed peacefully away on the morning of May 23.

The funeral was held from St. Ann's Catholic church at Harpers Ferry on Monday morning. Mass being read by Rev. Nolan. She was laid to rest in Wexford cemetery beside her loved ones gone before.

Out of town relatives at the funeral were Mrs. F.D. Postal and daughter June of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. John La Tronche, New Albin; Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Broderick and sons Leo and Sylvester; Mr. and Mrs. Will Korbal; Mr. and Mrs. John Broderick; Mrs. Fred Barr, of Ossian; Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Martelle; Mr. and Mrs. Leonard La Tronche; Mr. and Mrs. Phil Gavin, of Dubuque; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gremore and Charles of Prairie du Chien; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Gavin, Marquette.

The pall bearers were six grandchildren, Frank and Leonard LaTronche, Peter Martelle, Leo Broderick, Philip and Ben Gavin
