The West Union 'Union' has the following kindly mention of the late little Birdie Hover, whose death we recorded last week:
She was a very bright, beautiful child, and though she had never before been sick, and had learned no patience by experience, and the severity of her disease from the beginning (one week before) was such that all the time she had great difficulty in breathing; yet so reasonable was she, and so kind in disposition, that she scarcely made complaint, and all the time seemed fully to appreciate the efforts of her physicians and friends for her relief. Finally, when death was approaching, she was told she could not recover, she calmly kissed her parents and friends and passed peacefully down into the dark river.

Notes: Birdie has a gravestone in the West Union cemetery that she shares with her brother Freddie, who also died in 1876. Their parents were Elam O. Hover & Sophrina M. nee Spencer. Sophrina died in 1938 and is buried in Oak Hill cemetery, Lansing
