Chicago: Chapman Brothers, 1887

CHRISTIAN T. YOUNG. Prominent among the respected and honored citizens and agriculturists of this county is the gentleman whose name heads this biographical notice, who is now retired from his chosen vocation and resides with his son John in Eden Township. He was born in Montgomery County, N. Y., June 8, 1796, and is a son of Thomas and Nancy (Hackaney) Young. The father was a native of Germany and came with his parents to this country when six weeks old, and our subject's mother was born in New York State.

Christian Young was reared on a farm and received a common-school education. He went from New York to La Porte County, Ind., in 1848, and was there a resident for fifteen years, variously occupied. He then came to this county and located on section 7, Canton Township. He was married, Dec. 25, 1819, to Catherine Hall, a native of Montgomery County, N. Y. Three children, all living, were born of this union. Mary married John Jessup, and they are living in La Porte County, Ind.; Thomas married Charlotte Hutchinson, and they reside in Linn County, this State; and John is living in Eden Township. Mrs. Young died Oct. 15, 1878, in Eden Township. Mr. Young is independent in politics.
