Does anyone recognize the man on the left below? Handwritten on the back is "Mr D Mrs A H A". The woman on the right has been identified as Mrs. A. H. Andersen, but "Mr D" is still unknown. The photo is believed to have been taken circa 1886-1889, either the spring of 1889 or during the years immediately prior. Anna's husband worked at the general store in Brayton during the early years of their marriage and they later moved to Lorah (Cass Co.), where they operated the general store. Their first child was born in late October, 1889, and Anna is not noticeably pregnant in this photo. The photo was either taken earlier in their marriage or just before.
Could Mr D and Anna both have been early teachers at the Oakfield school? The photographer's stamp reads "Smith's Home Photo Gallery, Oakfield, Ia." The list of early Oakfield school teachers is incomplete, but a Robert N. Day is among the known teachers. Could the man on the left be Robert N. Day?
