GRAIN, COAL & LIVE STOCK.--The subject of this sketch was born in Jasper county, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. He came to Audubon county in November, 1878 and engaged in farming. He served as deputy sheriff of Audubon county from Dec. 1, 1883, until Jan'y. 1, 1886. In the fall of 1886 he engaged in the grain, coal and live stock business and by his honesty and fair dealing has built up a very extensive business. He is an active and honored member of several of the secret orders of the town, and was master of the Masonic lodge during 1891. He has been an active member of the fire department since its organization, and has been foreman of the hook & ladder team for the last five years. It was under his management, that the hook & ladder team of Audubon, three times won the state championship belt, and made the fastest time on record. Mr. Johnson is a man who stands ready at all times to do his part in every public enterprise which has for its object the advancement of town, county and mankind generally.
