Beard School

The Beard school was located approximately a mile and a half south of the town of Exline, just south of what is now the intersection of highway T30 and 590th Street.   The school was named for Elisha Beard, on whose land the school was built.   In the early years of the school, in the late 1800's, seats were long benches, with no backs, and the desks were arranged along the walls and raised and lowered as they were used.   The building was also used for church services prior to the building of churches in Exline.   The school closed around 1956 when the schools in the rural areas started consolidating.   The building, along with any remaining contents, was auctioned off on September 8, 1960.
