Hanover No.4 - School Notes

Report cards were distributed this week. Thirteen pupils have had perfect attendance for the past six weeks.

Our enrollment this year numbers thirty. We have four beginners, Idella Gallagher, Emmet Howe, Justine O'Meara and Billy Willis.

Through the help of the Standard School Fund the school has provided several copies of Smith's geographies and Woodburn & Moran histories, to be used as reference books in these subjects.

John Delaney of the eighth grade is the proud owner of a bronze medal, the award furnished by the U.S. Department of Agriculture for locating a common barberry bush.

Our school was painted on the interior and exterior during the vacation months which greatly improves its appearance.

The beginners have completed the preliminary course of study as outlined by Miss Olive Ritter and are now studying pre-primers.

October 12, being a beautiful Indian summer day, we began school at 8 o'clock, shortened our recess and noon intermission so that we might go on a hike into the woods. We started at two-thirty and walked about two miles. The first three grades gathered material for their geography work and upper grades for nature study. As hiking is also a part of our physical education work, we succeeded in making our trip profitable as well as pleasant. Our teacher furnished marshmallows, which we toasted for refreshments. We stopped at Elizabeth Delaney's farm for water, which at this point was as greatly enjoyed as the marshmallows.
