Zachariah Lawrence Obituary (Gold Star Veteran)

Zachariah Lawrence was a young boy scarcely 17, a large overgrown bright faced boy endowed with bravery and love of country of all the Lawrences. His Grandfather before him captured a British ship in the War of 1812 and Zachariah despised everything and everybody who was against the Union. He served gallantly through 1862 and 1863 but the hard siege of Vicksburg, the long march to Lookout Mountain and the winter march to Knoxville, Tennessee overcame his robust constitution, he was taken with typhoid fever and died [a family record states he died of measles] in the winter of 1863 at Woodville, Alabama. Rebecca Ann Brand Robison Obituary Mrs. Rebecca Brand Robison after a number of months of suffering passed from this life to the great beyond Friday evening, February 2nd, 1906, at 9:30 o'clock. She fell peacefully asleep and never awakened. The funeral services were conducted from the home at 10 o'clock a.m., Sunday, by Rev. Beverage, her pastor, assisted by Rev. A. Y. Cupp. Interment in north cemetery beside her husband, who has been dead for a number of years. Grandma, as she was known by all, was born January 30,1825 in New Jersey, afterwards moved to Ohio, thence to Illinois, where she was united in marriage to Samuel Robison in 1837. To this union were born fourteen children, a number of whom have also been called home, and the rest mourn the loss of a kind and affectionate mother. She was a loving mother, an earnest Christian and a friend to all. The deepest of sympathy is extended to the bereaved family. Walter P Shinn's father, William P Shinn

William P Shinn Obituary William P. Shinn was born in Jo Daviess County, Illinois, about eight miles from Galena, 18 January 1854, the son of Amos and Mary (Van Dyke) Shinn. William P. Shinn spent his boyhood days at Warren, Illinois, where he remained to the age of fourteen years and then accompanied his parents to Marshall County, Iowa. In that locality he grew to manhood and was closely associated with farming interests through the assistance which he rendered his father in the development and improvement of the fields at the old home place.
On 15 August 1874 at State Center, Marshall County Iowa Mr. Shinn was united in marriage to Miss Eloise Morris, a native of Ontario, Canada. Following the death of his father, his mother moved with her family to Adams County, Iowa, where she continued to make her home until called to her final rest in 1892, at the age of sixty-two years. William clerked in a general store at Carbon, Iowa, and afterward he engaged in business on his own account for a decade. He was likewise postmaster in Carbon for a number of years and in 1886 he entered the railway mail service, making the run between Kansas City, Missouri, and Council Bluffs, Iowa, for a period of four years. In 1890 he established a drug store at Corning, Iowa, in connection with his brother, and while thus engaged he went to Alaska, eventually, returning to Iowa, where he continued in the drug business until 1898.
In that year he was elected to the office of county treasurer for a four years' term and acceptably filled the position, discharging his duties with marked promptness and fidelity. Following his retirement from office he became cashier of the First National Bank of Prescott, Iowa, and during that period he still continued in the drug business, while his association with the bank covered two years. The year 1905 witnessed the arrival of Mr. Shinn in Idaho. (Published in History of Idaho: The Gem of the Mountains Vol. 2 by James H. Hawley 1920)
