Elkader Sisters Enlist in Waves

Elkader -- Elizabeth and Marjory Witt, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. William Witt of Elkader, have joined the Waves and will report to Hunter college, New York City, about Nov. 1.

Elizabeth Witt, a State Teachers college graduate, formerly taught in the Cedar Rapids schools and last year was primary supervisor in the Midland, Wash., public schools. Marjory Witt was graduated from the University of Iowa and was an English teacher at Midland last year. Previously she taught at Colesburg and Northwood.

Elizabeth Ann “Sis” Witt Monks was born June 30, 1917 to William John and Ethel Virginia Crouse Witt. She died Aug. 20, 2014 and is buried in Elkader Cemetery, Elkader, IA.

Elizabeth served in World War II with the U.S. Navy WAVES in the Medical Corps in San Diego, CA and Corpus Christi, TX.
