PENSACOLA ADOPTS IOWAN -- WAVE Dorothy Jane White, yeoman 1/c in the NATC executive office, Pensacola, daughter of Mr. and Mr.s E.B. White of Marshalltown, Saturday became "Pensacola's adopted daughter from Iowa" in the city's program inaugurated Aug 19 to honor Pensacola's 1,700 WAVES from 48 states serving at the naval air training center, "Annapolis of the Air."

Miss White enlisted in Des Moines in January 1943 and trained at Cedar Falls, with Vivian Jeffreys of East Orange, N. J., who debuted as Pensacola’s first “adopted” daughter a week ago. Both girls came to Pensacola with the original WAVES contingent in April 1943. Miss White has a brother serving in the Navy: Robert T. White, motor machinist’s mate 1/c.
Pensacola’s WAVES adoption program, sponsored by members of the clergy, civic groups, American Legion Auxiliary and other patriotic societies, is designed “to make the Navy’s splendid young women realize that they are highly esteemed and warmly welcomed in Pensacola, birthplace of naval aviation, said Mrs. Parks.
