Pfc. Ardella Wheeler

 

 

 

Pfc. Ardella Wheeler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Wheeler of this city (Webster City, IA) is now located at the navy air station, El Centro, CA, where she is a storekeeper in the quartermaster department. Her work is in a clothing warehouse.

Enlisted in the marine reserve in April 1943, Miss Wheeler began training in May and after attending storekeepers school at Millingville, GA, completed her work at quartermaster school at Endenton, N.C.

Ardella Marie Wheeler was born Nov. 8, 1920 to George H. and Mary Alice Wheeler. She was married to T Sgt. Eugene A. Butts, USMC.

Funeral Notes - Daily Freeman Journal Apr. 26, 1978:

Word has been received here of the death of Mrs. Gene (Ardella Wheeler) Butts, 57, who died Tuesday morning in the Marine hospital in North Carolina. Her death followed an extensive illness.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at Walhalla, S.C., with burial being made there.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mary Wheeler of Webster City, and also a brother, George Wheeler, Jr.

She is survived by her husband, Gene Butts; two nephews, one niece and several cousins.

She was born and raised in Webster City and was graduated from Webster City high school.

She saw service with the Women’s Marine Corps during World War II.
