Will Train to Be Officer in WAVES

Miss Alice Jean Van Dyke, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.P. Ban Dyke, 1920 Virginia avenue, Davenport, left this afternoon for Smith college, Northampton, Mass., where she will take officer's training in the WAVES. She was inducted into the service May, 25, 1943 in St Louis, Mo.

Miss Van Dyke is a member of St. John's Methodist church choir. At the University of Illinois, from which she graduated in 1941, she affiliated with the Alpha Phi sorority. She has been a teacher of languages in the Community high school of Pittsfield, Ill.

BARRACKS OFFICER

Ensign Alice Jean Van Dyke, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles P. Van Dyke, 1920 Virginia avenue, in addition to her other duties at the Ottumwa, Ia., air station, is now also barrack officer for the WAVE detachment there. She is a graduate of the University of Illinois, and before entering the service was a teacher in the high schools of Pittsfield and Manteno, Ill. She was commissioned an ensign a year ago.
