Ruth Anne Meyers First Local Girl to Join WAACs

Her Enlistment Is the Second Credited to the County

The first Carroll girl and second Carroll County to join the Women's Auxiliary Army Corps is Ruth Anne Meyers, daughter of Mr and Mrs J. J. Meyers.

Ruth Anne who has been spending the summer in Chicago, was sworn in there last Thursday. She will arrive in Des Moines Saturday.

She was graduated last spring from Rosary College, River Forest, Ill.

Sgt. Ruth Anne Meyers Sent to Daytona Beach

First Sgt. Ruth Anne Meyers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Meyers, who has competed eight weeks training in the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps at Ft. Des Moines, has been sent to the new training center of the WAACs at Daytona Beach, Fla., to assist in the training of new recruits.

Sgt. Meyers is staying at the Ridgewood Hotel, Room 101, Daytona Beach.

Lt. Ruth Anne Meyers Wed in North Carolina

Lt. Ruth Anne Meyers of the WAC, and Lt. Clarence A. Thompson of the Army Parachute Troops, were married Wednesday, Aug. 4 in the chapel at Ft. Bragg, N.C. Mrs. Thompson is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Meyers of Carroll and Lt. Thompson is the son of General and Mrs. Clarence A. Thompson of Virginia Beach, Va. The ceremony was performed by Father Mahoney, an army chaplain, who is known as the "Parachute Priest".

Mrs. Thompson is a graduate of St. Angela Academy and of Rosary college, River Forest, Ill. She entered the WAC in September, 1942 and received her commission in March 1943.

Lt. Thompson is a graduate of Hampden-Sydney college, Northampton-Sydney, Va., and is a member of Kappa Sigma national fraternity.

Ruth Anne Thompson Is First Lieutenant

Mrs. Ruth Anne Thompson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Meyers, has been advanced from second lieutenant to first lieutenant in the Women’s Army Corps. She received her promotion April 22. Lt. Thompson, who is in the personnel department at Chicago University, works with A.S.T.P. students.

Lieut. Ruth Meyers Thompson to Visit

Lieut. Ruth Meyers Thompson, of the Womes' Army Corps, will arrive Saturday morning from Chicago to spend the week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Meyers. She works in connection with the Army Specialized Training Program at Chicago University.
