Sgt. Jeanne K. Sullivan

 

 

JOINING THE MARINES -- Miss Anna Shimanek and Miss Jeanne Sullivan, both employed in the Davenport office of the Chicago Ordnance district quad-cities sub office, are now privates in the marines.

These two young women are probably the first in the state of Iowa to join this branch of service. They were sworn into the Corps February 20 at Chicago after successfully passing all examinations.

Miss Sullivan, on the left, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Sullivan of 2304 Farnam street. She is a graduate of Marycrest and has been employed in the ordnance office for the past year.

Miss Shimanek is the daughter of Attorney and Mrs. F. H. Shimanek of Oxford Jct., Ia. She is a graduate of the University of Iowa and before joining the ordnance office force was employed by Coughlin Sales Co. She made her home at 2022 LeClaire street.

The girls expect to be called into active service the latter part of this month and hope to be sent to Hunter college in New York for their basic training.

Jeanne Sullivan of Marines Flies Home On Holiday Furlough

Home for a 14-day furlough is Marine Sgt. Jeanne K. Sullivan, who is visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Sullivan, 129 East Rusholme street, Davenport.

Sgt. Sullivan flew from her home base in San Francisco to Davenport and will make the return trip by air on Dec 29. She enlisted Feb. 20, 1943 and received her boot training at Hunter college, New York City, following which she was stationed for three months in Washington, D.C.

A former student at Marycrest college, Sgt. Sullivan was employed by the quad-city regional office of the Chicago ordnance district.

WAVE of the Day

Miss Carolyn Mae Sullivan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Sullivan, 129 East Rusholme street, has enlisted in the WAVES. [aka "Connie"]

She is a Davenport high school graduate and was employed at Frederick's studio.

Her sister, Sgt. Jeanne H. Sullivan, M.C.W.R., is stationed at San Francisco, Calif.

A brother-in-law, Lt. E.A. Pannos, U.S.N. is now in the South Pacific.

MARINE AND WAVE SISTERS ON LEAVE TOGETHER - It was a chance timing that brought Sgt. Jeanne Sullivan, USMC (left) and Connie Sullivan, seaman, second class, in the WAVES, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Sullivan, 129 East Rusholme street, home on 15-day leaves together. Sgt. Jeanne, who is stationed at a Marine base in San Francisco, had planned her visit for the past two months, while Seaman Connie was recently assigned leave on schedule at the WAVES barracks in the same city where she is personnel supervisor.
