East Junior High Teacher Resigns to Train with Waves

Miss Leona M. Stringfellow, Walnut Court apartments, a homemaking instructor at East Junior High school for the past year and a half, has resigned her position and will leave at the close of the semester Friday for indoctrination training with the Waves unit at Cedar Falls.

Miss Stringfellow, whose home is at Oskaloosa, Ia., was accepted by the Waves several weeks ago. She is a graduate of Penn college, Oskaloosa and took graduate work at Iowa State college at Ames.

Where Are Those GI Janes Since They've Again Become Civilians?

What has happened to those Waterloo girls who looked so smart in Wave, Wac or Spar uniforms, traveled the country and the world and the were discharged from service to return to civilian life?
Well, many of them were married while in the service and have settled in other states or brought their husbands to Waterloo to live. Still others entered new fields of work and have gone on to college through the benefits of education provision of the GI bill of rights.

Miss Leona M. Stringfellow resigned her position as homemaking instructor at East Junior high school to enter the Waves, is studying toward a master's degree at Iowa State college, Ames. Her hometown is Oskaloosa.

Leona Stringfellow Joins KOAC Staff

Leona M. Stringfellow today joined the staff of radio KOAC as director of women's programs, coming from station WOI, educational radio station of Iowa State college, where she was a member of the program staff and assistant to the women's editor.

She is a graduate of William Penn college and holds a master's degree in home economics from Iowa State college. In addition to her formal training she has a background of experience as a teacher of home economics in high schools and serve with the Waves for 44 months during the war. Her home is as Rose Hill.

Miss Stringfellow will be heard on KOAC's daily broadcasts from the Oregon State Fair as she presents the story of the fair as it especially interests the women of the state of Oregon.
