Pfc. Ella Eugenia Smith of Washington, a teacher and artist until her enlistment in October, 1942, is on duty at Ft. Des Moines as a clerk in the commissary. Recently she won second place in a painting contest for WACs and had spent a good deal of the decorating for recreation rooms at the Fort. Many of her illustrations are being used in WAC booklets and on cards. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Smith and is the only member of her family in service.
