Cedar Falls - Dora M. Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L.M. Smith, 510 Walnut street, has received an appointment as United States navy reserve nurse, rating equivalent to a lieutenant's rating in the U.S. navy, and will report at the Great Lakes (Ill.) naval base hospital May 20 for three years' service.
Miss Smith is a graduate of Cedar Falls High school and attended Iowa State Teachers college for one year. She received her nurses training course at Mercy hospital, Des Moines.
Since graduation from Mercy hospital she has been employed on the staffs of Kings county hospital, Brooklyn, N.Y.; Passavant hospital , Chicago, Ill.; Mercy hospital, Des Moines, and for the last two and a half years has been a staff nurse at Saretori Memorial hospital of this city.

Cedar Falls -- Mary Kingman, daughter of Mrs. Grace Kingman, 416 West Fourth street, has joined the United States Naval Nurses Reserve corps and will leave her home next week to begin her duties for the duration of the war. She will report for nursing duty at the naval base hospital in San Diego, Cal.
Miss Kingman, who is a registered nurse and also an American Red Cross nurse, received her training from the nurses training school at University of Iowa, graduating in 1940. Since that time she has been employed on the general duty staff at the university hospital.
Miss Kingman is the second Cedar Falls nurse to join the navy as a nurse, the first being Dora M. Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Smith, 510 Walnut street, who is serving in the regular Naval Nurse corps as an instructor at Great Lakes, Ill.

Cedar Falls Girl Is Chief Nurse at U.S. Navy Hospital
Mr. and Mrs. L.M. Smith, 510 Walnut street, Cedar Falls, have received word from their daughter, Dora, of her commission as lieutenant (j.g.) and appointment as chief nurse at the U.S. navy hospital, Long Beach, Cal.
Lieutenant Smith was assigned to the naval hospital at Long Beach in June

REUNION IN CHICAGO
Cedar Falls -- Mr. and Mrs. L.M. Smith and daughter, Prudence Anne, 510 Walnut street, returned Sunday after spending the weekend in Chicago where they met their daughter and sister, Lt. (j.g.) Dora M. Smith, of the marine corps. Lieutenant Smith was returning to Long Beach Cal., after accompanying a special train of marine women recruits from Los Angeles to New River, N.C. Lieutenant Smith is stationed at the U.S. Naval hospital at Long Beach, where she is the chief nurse and dietitian.
