Pvt. Eve S. Simmons

Joins WAAC as Private

"Gee, I wish Butch was here," Mrs. Eve S. Simmons, 36, of 513 1/2 Mulberry st., said Tuesday as she was sworn into the women's army auxiliary corps as an auxiliary (private). She is the first Iowa woman to enter the WAACs as a private.

"Butch" is her son, Albert Richard Ertel, 17, who is in the navy. Her husband, Technical Sergeant Bruce Simmons, is stationed at Fort Buchanan in Puerto Rico. Her brother, Sergt. William Kennedy Mitchell, 22, is in northern Ireland.

Mrs. Simmons, who previously has made application to enter the WAACs officers training school hopes will get foreign service.
