Former Davenport Girl Is in WAC

Corpl. Vera Screechfield, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F.H. Strong of 519 West Fifteenth street, Davenport, who has resided in Los Angeles, Calif., for 14 years since leaving here, is in the WAC and is stationed at Fort Custer, Mich., her work being in the station hospital. She received her training at Fort Des Moines, entering in Feb. 1943

The former Davenporter, who was here late in June, when she surprised her mother on her birthday, left Saturday on a 15 day furlough to visit friends in Los Angeles, where she was formerly assistant chief operator with the Southern Bell Telephone Co.

Corpl. Screechfield enjoys her work in the WAC and is hoping for overseas duty. She has two brothers in the service, Jack Strong, who is overseas, and "Bill" Woodrow Strong, who is at Colorado Springs, Colo.
