Maj. Margaret K. Schafer

 

 

Mr. and Mrs. L.F. Schafer, 1120 22nd Street, have received a cable from their daughter, First Lieut. Margaret K. Schafer, nursing corps, telling of her safe arrival on foreign shores. Lieut. Schafer had been stationed at Fort Joseph Robinson since last May and later was transferred to New Jersey.

Lieut. Schafer was graduated from St. Joseph’s hospital school of nursing. After graduation she was surgical supervisor and instructor of nursing at the University of Michigan hospital at Ann Arbor.

She took her oath in the Red Cross army nursing corps at Washington and was made chief nurse of her hospital unit. Mr. and Mrs. Schafer also have a son, Private Lawrence J. Schafer in service. Private Schafer has been missing in the Philippines since May 7.

IN UNIFORM

Maj. Margaret K. Schafer, A.N.C., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. F. Schafer, 1120 22d Street, was awarded the bronze star for meritorious service. Maj. Schafer is head of American nurses in England, where she has been for the last 30 months.
