YOKOHAMA, JAPAN - The hospital ship Benevolence anchored in Tokyo Bay was carrying out its angel of mercy mission Monday.
Aboard it were Allied prisoners of war rescued from the Tokyo-Yokohama area, and while most of them showed the effects of their imprisonment, their spirit already had zoomed to new heights.
Among the 30 navy nurses caring for the former prisoners was Lt. (j.g.) Frances Romano of 1416 Southwest First st., Des Moines.
A Graduate of S.U.I.
A graduate of the State University of Iowa, she enlisted in 1943 and has been aboard the Benevolence since being commissioned, lieutenant before enlistment was Appanoose county nurse.
