Bernice Rohlff to Leave Sunday for Marine Service

Miss Bernice "Bunny" Rohlff, daughter of Mrs. Herman Rohlff, 1807 Pine Acre avenue, will leave Sunday for New York City to report to Hunter college for training as a recruit in the U.S. Marine Corps Women's reserve.

A graduate of the Davenport high school, she has been employed for a number of years as an office secretary at the Davenport Bank & Trust Co.

Mrs. Rohlff is maintaining open house from 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday at the Rohlff residence as a farewell courtesy for her daughter.

Wounded veterans of the battle of Tarawa island were feted at a pre-Christmas party Wednesday given by the marine corps women's reserve at the naval hospital in Oakland, Calif. Opening presents are (left to right) Sgt. Bernice Rohlff of Davenport; Sgt. H.C. Burton of Denison, Tex.; Sgt. Helen Stefanowicz of Chicago; Pfc. John Strycharz of Easthampton, Mass., and Corp. Cecile Julien of Fishdale, Mass.

Sgt. Rohlff, who entered the Marine Corps Women's Reserve last June is the daughter of Mrs. Herman Rohlff, 1807 Pineacre, and the late Herman Rohlff. She is coming home Jan 10. to spend a furlough here.
