Virginia E. Pobuda

 

 

Joe F. Pobuda, son of Mrs. Mary Pobuda, 1417 Spring street, is now stationed at the naval air station at Lake City, Fla., where he will receive training as a naval cadet. He was sworn into the naval air corps April 29 of this year but has just been called for active service. He is a 1943 graduate of Davenport high school and prior to entering the service, he was employed at the Silver Plating Department store.

His sister, Virginia E. Pobuda, will leave August 26 for Hunter college in New York where she will take training in the WAVES. She is a former employee of the Rock Island arsenal.

Virginia Pobuda of WAVES Leaves Today for Washington, D.C.

Virginia E. Pobuda, yeoman third class, daughter of Mrs. Mary Pobuda of 1417 Spring street, leaves today for Washington, D.C., where she will be stationed in the bureau of ordnance department. She has been home on a seven-day leave.

Miss Pobuda has completed training her WAVES training at Hunter college, New York, and Stillwater, Okla. She entered the WAVES Sept. 9, 1943, prior to which she was employed at the Rock Island arsenal. Her education was received in the schools of Davenport and she was graduated from Davenport high school.

She has a brother, Joe F. Pobuda, who is in the V-5 program located at the air base at Lake City, Fla., where he is taking the naval course. He will be transferred to Ft. Murray, Ky., Jan 20. Before entering service Aug. 9, 1943, he had been attending Davenport high school.

OFF TO WASHINGTON -- Six tri-city girls left Davenport yesterday morning for Washington D.C., to start actual duties as WAVES. The group left Davenport last September for Hunter college, New York City where they had three weeks of naval indoctrination. Oct 5, 1943, they were sent to Stillwater, Okla., to begin training prior to becoming third class yeoman. The girls were all given six day leave which they spent with relatives in the tri-cities.  Those shown above are:

Mrs. Mary Pobuda of this city announces the engagement of her daughter, Miss Virginia Eileen Pobuda, to Joseph L. Creviston, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Creviston of 2736 Rockingham road.

Vows will be taken Saturday, June 8, at 11 a.m. in Sacred Heart cathedral and the attendants will be Miss Mary Ellen Pobuda, sister of the bride-elect, and Robert Hahn. Relatives and friends are welcome to attend a reception at 7:30 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Thormann, 925 1/2 West Third street, Davenport.

Both Miss Pobuda and Mr. Creviston attended the Davenport schools. The former was employed at the Rock Island arsenal before entering the WAVES. She received her release last February after 30 months of service. Mr. Creviston received his release from the army last February after three years of service of which 20 months were overseas. He is now with the C.O.D. Cleaners.
