DAVENPORT GIRLS JOIN THE WAVES - Miss Margaret Voss and Lou Phillis have joined the WAVES and have left for Hunter college, New York, for their basic training.

Miss Voss, a niece of Mr. and Mrs. Harry H. Martens, 1826 Dixwell street, attended the Davenport high school and has been employed in the office at St. Luke's hospital. She is a past president of the Florence Simms club of the local Y.M.C.A.

Miss Phillis of 310 West Sixth street, has been employed at the F.W. Woolworth Co. for two years. Her brother, Kenneth, who enlisted in Davenport, is with the United States army in Hawaii. A stepbrother, Calvin Vieth, is with the marines.

Davenport WAVE Has Returned to Norfolk

Blanche Lucille Phillis, S 2/c in the WAVES, has returned to Norfolk, Va., after a seven-day leave which she spent with her mother, Mrs. Betty Phillis of 301 W Sixth street, Davenport.

Seaman Phillis, who was formerly employed by F.W. Woolworth & Co., enlisted in the WAVES in November, 1943, and after receiving her basic training at Hunter college in New York was sent to United States Naval Air station in Norfolk.

Seaman Phillis has a brother, Kenneth, in the army, and a half brother, Calvin Keith, in the navy. Both brothers are overseas.
